Uncle Johnny
Last week I found out the my Uncle Johnny had a brain tumor. They didn’t know if it was cancerous or benign, so we were all hoping for the best. He was scheduled Tuesday to go have surgery to remove it.
Things sort of took a strange turn this week, though. Monday night he had to be rushed to the hospital because he had a stroke. He had stopped taking his blood thinner medicine (per doctor’s orders) in order to be able to have the brain surgery on Tuesday, and this may have contributed to the stroke. He’s been in a coma ever since, and the doctors don’t foresee him coming out of it. Well, they went ahead and removed alot of the tumor, but there is still some left. We also got the biopsy results today. It is cancerous, and apparently it is the type of cancer that progresses rapidly. So I’m not even sure what to make of this. I’ve been trying to just not think about it and hope for the best. I really like my uncle, and I really feel awful for my dad. This is his brother-in-law, but it is also a friend who he knew from high school, and probably jr. high and elementary, too. They both grew up in the same community. But mostly I feel terribly for my Aunt Marilyn.
Right now he is breathing on his own and his vitals are actually good. So I’m hoping the he able to come out of the coma on his own. Doctors have been wrong before.
